Listen to Chapter 1 (After May 29, 2018)
Meet John Washington, Our first U.S. President’s great-grandfather and the first Washington family immigrant to America. “Shipwrecked in the Land of King Tobacco: The First Washington Family Immigrant to America,” is my newest book and the result of almost five years of research, site visits, interviews, and countless hundreds of hours. What this book became is an amazing story more interesting than any of today’s reality T.V. shows, rife with shipwrecks, witches, back-stabbing, bad business deals, mock trials, brave seafarers, the first few generations of the revolutionary era families with names we all know, and love stories that originate right here in tidewater Virginia and Southern Maryland itself.
This book was born out of my passion for studying the U.S. Presidents and history. It became a reality when I accepted I was out of my league trying to add to the saturated market of books on George Washington. Forced to dig deeper while the current issue of immigration looms, I began to think about George Washington’s family and how they ended up in America. Expecting the story already to have been told, I began doing site visits and researching. Surprisingly I found that even early George Washington sites have little despite amazing efforts. Certainly this is no criticism to the expert historians of the National Park Services and Private Trusts. More likely, it is the ease of the internet world that brought the opportunity to finally see records from all over the world and piece the puzzle together with accurate primary sources using the evidentiary method.
As the book is undergoing its final edit and being prepared for printing I am offering the first two chapters in audio format free of charge on my youtube channel. (click here) To continue listening readers have two options - Support my work via Patreon to unlock two chapters per month via audiobook, or wait until July 4, 2018 for the release of the book..
