Haydn complete this symphony in 1772 while Haydn was attendant at the court of Prince Nikolaus Esterhazy. Similar to the ‘Surprise Symphony’, Haydn included unexpected sections of vibrant music amongst otherwise sedate passages.

This work is comprised of four movements:
I. Vivace
II. Poco adagio in B minor
III. Menuet e Trio (Trio in B minor): Allegretto
IV. Finale: Presto e scherzando
