The Israelites have just walked away from Pharaoh after he finally relented following the 10th plague for refusing to “let my people go”. A plague that resulted in the death of the firstborn throughout Egypt, including the Pharaoh’s own son. The Israelites are essentially on the run toward Mount Sinai and have hit a dead end on the shores of the Red Sea.

They have no choice but to trust the Almighty to get them across; it’s a test of their faith, a lesson to see if they are worthy of being his people — a lesson on the way to Sinai.
