Madrigali, libro primo (First book of Madrigals) by Claudio Monteverdi

Montiverdi most likely completed his first book of Madrigals in 1587 at the age of 20 while living in Lombardy. Monteverdi would dedicate this collection to Count Marco Verità of Verona. It is likely this dedication was flattery in an attempt to secure employment from the Count who was known as a patron of the arts in Verona. A Madrigal is a song, usually for four voices, based on secular text or poetry.
