In a Tokyo suburb, a Buddhist temple has been causing a stir after performing funerals for hundreds of robot dogs. The funerals were held with incense smoke, chanting priests and prayers for a peaceful transition of the ‘souls’ of the departed bots. Mourners, who were deeply attached to their robot companions, attended the funerals because they believed their robots had a soul that needed to be put to rest.
