Director Steve Mitchell Talks 'King Cohen'

I would personally describe writer/director/producer Larry Cohen as the juggernaut of cinema. The man’s prospectus spans nearly sixty years and who’s credits include some of the most memorable installments in the entertainment industry such as It’s Alive, The Stuff, Maniac Cop, and the excellent (if not short lived) Coronet Blue. With so many works under his belt, it was surprising that he had not been the subject of a documentary filmmaker by the time “Masters of Horror” featured him as a director.

To fix this erogenous mistake of galaxian proportions, writer/director Steve Mitchell undertook the tumultuous task of rounding up those involved or influenced by Cohen’s art and created one of the most entertaining docs that has ever graced my inbox. Mr. Mitchell joined me for about an hour as we spoke about Larry, the trials of documentary filmmaking, and the power one filmmaker can have on an entire generation of film fanatics.
