By switching the societal and mental state between men and apes, the movie delivers at times thought provoking and interesting commentary on intolerance and racism. But that's not the only thing that Planet of the Apes has on its mind, as between the attacks on social injustice the film also deals with the apparent eternal conflict between faith and science. These themes are by far the most interesting things the film has to offer, even though they are mostly handled quite bluntly and not with the deepest sense of care.
