Byton Production Start: the First Futuristic Car That Ever Enters Series Production
We have new infos on Byton production starting later this year in their new factory in Nanjing, China. We have some infos on their production lines, suppliers and of course on the gigantic screen in the interior.
When we first saw the Byton M-Byte being revealed at CES 2018 we were like: Ok, yeah, another futuristic looking concept car, that will never be produced like that. Or in a much more boring series version.
However, we were astounded to find out, that the Byton M-Byte will really be released with all the cool features of the concept car, even the 48 inch ultra-wide screen on the interior. We were intrigued!
We read a bit more about the company and followed closely what they were doing. Turns out, they were quite diligent since CES 2018. They built a huge Byton factory in Nanjing, which if all goes well, will enable the Byton production start by Q4 2019, so by the end of this year.
Now this is what we call speed, it's always amazing to see how fast Chinese factories are built, exactly like the Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory.
We learn some interesting things about the suppliers of the different components of the car, from the battery cells by CATL, to the interior design by Faurecia, to the level 3 self-driving capability by Aurora.
Then we of course also have to talk about that huge Byton display with its 48 inch diagonal. It's being manufactured by a not yet so well known Chinese company named BOE. Then we also talk about the software and processor powering this beast.
When talking about electric cars, we of course also have to mention Tesla, because they too are building their huge Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai at a record speed. So who will win this fight Byton vs Tesla?
We speculate about the future and come to the conclusion that Byton could become a large player in the new electric vehicle market. But Tesla certainly isn't sleeping, and it will be interesting to see who will lead in the 2020s.
