Beethoven completed his second symphony in 1802, with the premiere being held in April of 1803 at the Theater an der Wein. Beethoven composed the symphony while on a recuperative retreat in Heiligenstadt, during which time Beethoven noted his increasing deafness. It is also during this time that Beethoven drafted his ‘Heiligenstadt Testatment’.

The work is comprised of four movements:
I. Adagio molto 00:01
II. Larghetto 10:18
III. Scherzo: Allegro 20:16
IV. Allegro molto 23:57
