Classic Must See Share on Cognitive Dissonance
The 5 Pillars of Denial
First from a psychological viewpoint, new information is not easy to swallow because one can not accept the new information and continue on with their lives in the same way and this can be very frightening.
Then Second the brain recognizes that the new information received will force it to re-arrange and re-program several pieces of information that it has accumulated over the years. And the brain will fight, because this requires a high amount of mental effort, and the best way to avoid the effort is to just reject the information entirely.
And then Third there is the problem of the ego. People will automatically fight your information offered because he or she values their thoughts and words more than yours and they can't accept that you might have stumbled across such valuable truths that they did not realize themselves before and in defense of their ego, they disclaim your offered truths without investigation.
And Fourth in many cases, the person is so comfortable living in the fast life that they don't want to change their way of life, and couldn't care less what's really happening in the world. They are to focused on themselves.
And finally fifth I think Morpheus said it best. "You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inert, so hopelessly dependent on the system that they will fight to protect it." ~PureBloodFreeMan
