Chopin would compose two Nocturnes in 1837 which would be published together as his Opus. 32 for piano. Both Nocturnes are dedicated to Baroness Madame Camile de Billing.

Chopin was only 27 at the time, and had begun an affair with the French author Aurore Dupin (George Sand). It is also 1837 when Chopin would begin to demonstrate the first signs of the deteriorating ill health that would plague him until his death in 1849.
