Fantaisie, Op. 111 by Gabriel Fauré

Fauré completed this work for piano and orchestra in 1918. The motivation from the work came from Jacques Durand, the publisher who worked with both Debussy and Fauré. Debussy had mentioned to Durand that he intended to compose a concertante for piano and orchestra at some point, but had not done so before his death in March of 1918. Durand mentioned this to Fauré and by September of 1918, the work was almost complete.

The first performance of the work was given in April of 1919 at the festival for Fauré in Monte Carlo. The first performance for the general public was given in ay of 1919 at the Société Nationale de Musique in Paris.

This work is comprised of three movements:
I. Allegro moderato
II. Allegro vivo
III. Allegro moderato
