šØ āRing of Fireā rocks Indonesia, Taiwan, and Japan...
A strong earthquake occurred off the southern coast of Java Island in Indonesia, shaking the capital Jakarta and the third largest city, Bandung. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake occurred in waters 102km south of Java Island, Indonesia, at approximately 11:29 pm on the 27th local time. The epicenter is 8.11 degrees south latitude and 107.27 degrees east longitude, and the depth of the earthquake is 68 km. Due to this earthquake, the ceiling of a mosque in Sukabumi collapsed, and the ceiling of a hospital in Tashikmalaya collapsed, forcing patients to urgently evacuate. In the capital Jakarta, high-rise buildings shook for about a minute, and West Java capital Bandung and Jakarta's satellite cities were also affected by the earthquake, with houses and buildings shaking. Indonesian authorities have not yet reported any injuries and there is no possibility of a tsunami, but have warned to be cautious as there is a possibility of aftershocks. Indonesia is located in the Pacific Rim seismic belt, known as the 'Ring of Fire', so earthquakes occur frequently. In addition to Indonesia, there have been recent earthquakes in Taiwan and Japan, and we have compiled some of the recently reported 'Ring of Fire' issues.
