Anne-Laure Bonnel, a young French filmmaker and mother, decides to accompany Alexandre, a father of Ukrainian origin, in the Donbass region, in the east of Ukraine in the pro-Russian zone.
In the heart of the war, she captures the terrible images of a deadly conflict and an unprecedented humanitarian disaster. Donbass is an immersive road movie, a gripping documentary film in a torn country.
Filming the war is not filming the fighting.
If war is a spectacle, we often tend to forget what is going on around it. In its off-field, entire populations try to live or rather to survive. Donbass gives them a voice. Through her documentary, Anne-Laure Bonnel looks at the conflict in its universality and films this "beside" that we are not shown enough.
Anne-Laure Bonnel, jeune réalisatrice et mère de famille française, décide d’accompagner Alexandre, un père de famille d’origine ukrainienne, dans la région du Donbass, à l’est de l’Ukraine en zone pro-russe.
Au cœur de la guerre, elle capte les images terribles d’un conflit meurtrier et d’un désastre humanitaire sans précédent. Donbass est un road-movie immersif, un film documentaire saisissant dans un pays déchiré.

Si la guerre est un spectacle, on a souvent tendance à oublier ce qui s’y trouve autour. Dans son hors-champs, des populations entières essaient de vivre ou plutôt de survivre. Donbass leur donne la parole. À travers son documentaire, Anne-Laure Bonnel se penche sur le conflit dans son universalité et filme cet "à côté" qu’on ne nous montre pas assez.
