Cello Sonata in A minor, Op. 36 by Edvard Grieg

Grieg completed this sonata in 1883 with the premiere performance being given in October the same year in Dresden with Grieg at the piano. The work is dedicated to John Grieg, brother to Edvard, who was a talented cellist. This was the first work Grieg composed after his lengthy period as conducted with the Bergen Symphony orchestra.

This sonata is comprised of three movements:
I. Allegro agitato
II. Andante molto tranquillo
III. Allegro molto e marcato
