Piano Sonata No. 9 in E major, Op. 14, No. 1 by Ludwig van Beethoven
Beethoven completed this piano sonata in 1798 at the age of 28. The work is dedicated to Baroness Josefa von Braun, the wife of Baron Peter von Braun, a patron of Beethoven. Baron Braun was an industrialist, and more importantly the manager of the court theatres in Vienna.
Beethoven would adapt this sonata for string quartet in 1801, transposing the work to F major to better suit the ensemble.
This sonata is comprised of three movements:
I. Allegro
II. Allegretto and trio
III. Rondo – Allegro comodo
