While fully awake, you relax and let your mind wander. Observe the thoughts and images.

Schedule free time in your day or week. Spend time by yourself with "nothing to do." Sit in a comfortable position. Relax your muscles and be comfortable. Now breath deep and slowly. Relax the muscles in your face and be totally calm. Just sit there without direction or purpose and experience your surroundings. Calm down. Maintain relaxed awareness and inner peace.
Let your mind wander and just follow the thoughts gently and peacefully wherever they may lead your consciousness.

If you play music, you might try making one of these super minimal musical event recordings yourself. They are fun to make and a lot more challenging than you might think.
It is difficult for me to keep the same relaxed, attentive, "not impatient" state of mind for just ten or fifteen minutes.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR LISTENING:
Get up and walk around, Perform some simple necessary chores. Calm down and focus your attention to some useful activity. Thoughtfully and without haste, clean things up, put things away, take care of simple tasks and makes notes on clean paper of "things to do."
