Beethoven completed this quintet in 1801 in dedication to Count Moritz von Fries, a frequent patron of Beethoven. The nickname ‘The Storm’ comes from the tumultuous nature of the final movement with the violins playing sporadically over tremolos on the cello, like the wind and lightning of a storm.

This quintet is comprised of four movements:
I. Allegro moderato
II. Adagio molto espressivo
III. Scherzo. Allegro
IV. Presto
