This modern era is getting on my last nerve again, time to spin up the old Time Machine for a date with New York City in 1911...
This amazingly casual stroll through the best sections of New York was filmed by Svenska Biografteatern, a company from Sweden who traveled the world committing its wonders to celluloid. Great care was made to tour as many of the famous landmarks as possible-and amazingly enough no one cared if you filmed them! Try that today...sigh.
The film was in good shape with little damage originally, and it was stored with care by the Museum of Modern Art (who also did a partial restoration). The final restoration however was done by the incomparable Denis Shiryaev, who ran the entire thing through his Neural Network and:
-corrected for speed
-added clarity and focus
-added a bit of color for effect and
-synthesized an artifical 'soundtrack' of special effects for realistic background noise!
Once again my hat is off for Mr. Shiryaev for restoring such a marvelous look into the past, and letting me into another era for a glorious eight-and-a-half-minutes! Colorized, Soundtrack.
