Darkness around the mouth makes the face look very patchy however it can be prevented and treated to an extent. Let’s understand it closely 🌸
Causes:
Genetics- Darkness around the mouth can be genetic. And if it is, you cannot get rid of it but can prevent it from getting worse by maintaining a good skin care routine and always moisturising your skin.
Drooling of saliva while sleeping- If you’re somebody who drools while sleeping, this might be one of the e reasons for the darkness. You will have to be a little cautious in this case and avoid it.
Toothpaste allergy- If it is due to toothpaste allergy, switch to a flavour and fluoride free toothpaste today.
Lip licking- Our continuous licking of the lips can make the lips and the surrounding region darker hence making it appear darker than the entire face.
Use of lipsticks- Generally lipsticks have ingredients that can cause darkness around the lips especially if you don’t remove it and let it stay for a longer duration. The skin tends to absorb those ingredients and make the skin appear darker.
Dry skin and rubbing: If you’ve dry skin, there are high chances of you having darkness around the mouth. And if you keep rubbing the skin, then nothing can save you from the darkness.
Treatment:
Skin lightening creams with Kojic acid, arbutin and licorice extract can help in lightening the pigment.
Chemical peels can help in getting rid of the visible darkness. It might not completely vanish but you will see a noticeable difference after the peels.
