Ruby Ridge was the site of an eleven-day siege of a self-reliant family by the U.S. federal government. It happened near Naples, Idaho, U.S., beginning on August 21, 1992, when agents of the United States Marshal Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation tried to arrest Randy Weaver on trumped-up charges. He, members of his immediate family, and his friend Kevin Harris resisted. The federal agents killed Weaver's wife and 14 year-old son, and shot 2 others.
