TRUMP BIDEN To Debate, Trump ACCEPTS, Biden Make my Day Pal Election Challenge
After months of uncertainty and indirect engagement, Donald Trump and Joe Biden have swiftly agreed on dates and venues for their debates. On Wednesday, both campaigns confirmed participation in two pivotal debates set for late June and mid-September.
The former president’s campaign announced acceptance of an invitation to debate the current president on CNN on June 27 and on ABC on September 10. President Biden, having previously accepted CNN’s invitation, also agreed to participate in ABC News’ forum.
However, this agreement doesn't guarantee the debates will take place, but it shows a clear interest from both sides for public confrontation. Both Biden and Trump have expressed reluctance to follow the Commission on Presidential Debates’ proposed schedule, casting doubt on whether any debates would occur at all.
In recent weeks, behind-the-scenes talks about debate planning took place between the Trump and Biden campaigns. A source with direct knowledge of these discussions, who requested anonymity, revealed these details to The Washington Post. A Biden campaign official, however, downplayed the notion of formal debate negotiations.
The situation became public on Wednesday when O’Malley Dillon highlighted several reasons for pulling out of the CPD’s planned debates, citing issues with the schedule, outdated format, and ineffective rule enforcement during the 2020 debates when Trump frequently interrupted Biden and the moderator.
