Declining population of Camel in India is worrying

Camels may be one of the most iconic animals of India. But their population has come shrunk more than 75% since the ’90s. To a little over 0.5 mln (’07) from 1.03 mln (’92)
Now, the latest livestock census (2019) pegs their number at about 250,000 only
In Rajasthan alone, their number has slid from 213,000 from 746,000 (’92). Gujarat's camel population has also declined from 30,000 in 2011 to 28,000 now. Haryana lost 72.65 per cent of its camel in the last seven years and now has only 5,000 left. Uttar Pradesh has only 2,000 — a decline close to 70% since 2011.
Several factors are responsible:
The camel's importance as a draught animal has reduced due to mechanisation Pastures and common lands have decreased significantly. Rajasthan declared camels to be state animals in 2014 and banned selling or transporting them outside. This has left the animal without a market outside the state
