Vaughan Williams began composing a set of three ‘Norfolk Rhapsodies’ in 1906, but only completed one by 1914. The works are based on the folk songs from the English county of Norfolk, in particular the port of King’s Lynn. The premiere performance of the Norfolk Rhapsody No. 1 took place in August 1906 in London.
