422 million firearms were bought by Americans between 1986 and 2018. This is according to a recent report by the NSSF, or the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
That’s 1.3 guns for every American. This includes 17.7 million Modern Sporting Rifles. Many of these are AR-15s.
“America has a strong desire to continue to purchase firearms for lawful purposes,” said Joe Bartozzi, president of the NSSF.
Besides a lot of guns, 8.1 billion rounds of ammo were produced in 2018 for the U.S.
Handguns are increasingly popular as well. In 2018, of the 7.7 million guns produced or imported, 4.3 million were pistols and revolvers.
