I'm pretty sure this powerful scene would have been even better without a stupid laugh track. Nothing funny at all about this.

My two fav actors right before they made it huge. This scene is iconic. The way Tom Hanks carries the scene and MJF doesn't even need to say much, his eyes says so much. So beautiful. They should do more work together!

This reminds me of my nephew (who's also called Alex), and me, except I'm not an alcoholic. Just an asshole. He looks a bit like Michael J. Fox and I look a bit like Hanks.

It's funny, in Taxi, Hanks is a dope-fiend against Doc Brown, and in this he's a drunk against Marty McFly. Thankfully, Doc and Marty went back in time to sort out Hanks's life and turn him into the biggest movie star in the world.

It's funny that these days Tom Hanks is typecast as the reliable decent nice guy, but back in the day in sitcoms like this, Taxi and Happy Days, he was the screw-up, the burn-out and the antagonist. Film-wise, I think Dragnet and Punchline are the few occasions when Hanks came close to playing those types of characters.

Observations: Uncle Ned observed the light turn on, Alex at the refridgerator, and recognized who it was, KNEW what Alex was doing, and called out Alex's name and SCARED Alex properly. How is that possible if someone is drunk?
02. Apologizes to Alex and asks him how he is? { Real consideration to the other's well being and self-awareness }
03. Ask's Alex what he is doing up so late anyway.. { Uncle Ned is very aware of what time it is... and offers Alex a drink because he knows Alex is studying crap for nothing.. after all Ned spoke at the World Bank! Alex is studying so called ''economics'' { at 0:36 seconds.. something dropped to the floor what was that? } DID ALEX notice that? the so called ''sober'' younger man in this scene
04. Ned tells a joke....
and many more... CONCLUSION: Despite the alcohol consumption Ned is still very well aware of himself, his s
