Two Elegiac Melodies, Op. 34 by Edvard Grieg

This work for string orchestra completed in 1880 is based on an adaption of an earlier Grieg composition, “12 Melodies, Op. 33” which was first published in 1880 and is a collection of songs for voice and piano based on text by Norwegian poet Aasumnd Olavsson Vinje. Grieg had adapted parts of the ’12 Melodies’ work into a suite for piano and then again into a version for string orchestra.

This work is comprised of two movements:
I. The Wounded Heart
II. The Last Spring
