President Franklin D. Roosevelt's "Day of Infamy Speech" was a speech delivered to a Joint Session of the US Congress on December 8, 1941, one day after the Empire of Japan attacked the US naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and the Japanese declaration of war on the United States and Great Britain. In the speech President Roosevelt details recent Japanese aggression and asks Congress for a declaration of war against Japan. President Roosevelt wrote the speech himself as he was unable to meet with his advisors. The United States Congress granted Roosevelt's wishes and declared war on Japan less than one hour later. This marked the United States' entrance into World War 2.
