This book is interesting because it is attributed to Saint Thomas, who some legends relate was one of the brothers of Jesus. If so, then he would be in a position to remember these stories accurately. Also, the stories sound to my ear to be anecdotal, which lends credence to their authenticity.
However, the text is written in Greek and not Aramaic or Hebrew. Some of the behaviors of townspeople seem contrived, or inauthentic.

This text is interesting in being attributed to Saint Thomas, who was also called Didymous Thomas and under that name authored "The Gospel of Thomas"
