(TAS) Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 3 Ultimate Contest Secret Ending in 30:06 IGT 33:46 RTA
This is a remake of my Ultimate Contest Secret Ending TAS. The reason why I decided to remake it is primarily because I felt like the original was too lazy. I made it very fast and didn't perfectly optimize everything in it. Halfway through the new TAS, I discovered that you don't need to do as many fights as I did in the original, which greatly added to how unoptimal the original was. For this remake, I tried a lot harder and spent more time on every section of the run, so it is frame-perfect everywhere. Also, the original version didn't sync up perfectly when running the input file back on the emulator. I had to record the run in segments that did sync up, then splice them all together. And I didn't even do a good job of that, since I only recorded in 480i and I unknowingly left a few stray pixels at the right edge of the screen that I didn't notice until it was too late. It was ugly, and a sure sign of an amateur TASer and video encoder. Now that I'm more experienced, I know what to do to get the best quality out of it, and since the remake syncs up perfectly, anyone with a fast enough computer can record an even higher-quality version than what my craptop could do. Links below for my 1080i render of the video, and the emulator and controller input files.

4:27- I opened up a few of the fights with immediate Demon Wind Bombs when they wouldn't let me jump in and attack them right away, no matter how much RNG manipulation I did. Doing it this way is about equally as fast as jumping in, but this way can't be blocked or subbed.
6:54- The Sasuke fight was faster in the remake because I RNG manipulated food pills instead of an armor break seal.
8:40- All of the platforming in this remake is faster than the original because I more accurately controlled Naruto's movements to make sure he was moving in the optimal direction to reach the objective.
8:52- It's a few frames faster to jump over the building than to walk around it.
9:26- Again, it's faster to jump over the buildings to take a more direct path to the objective.
9:53- This is a new TAS-only strat I found where you can use 3 DWBs in rapid succession. It's frame perfect, and in some cases, there isn't even a frame window that makes it possible, so you need to have the character positions and falling speed just right for this to work.
11:44- To do a DWB loop as fast as possible, you need to gain height, which is why I usually jump and punch the air in-between them. On this map specifically, you can gain even more height by simply climbing the tree; something I didn't think to do in the original TAS.
14:43- The final dummy gets killed a lot faster in the remake because I specifically optimized it so that it spawns on the first possible frame, and I made sure that Tenten's shurikens never clashed with mine (which was really hard to do, by the way).
20:41- Gaara was the hardest fight to TAS, because of the sheer number of DWBs I needed to do for optimal speed. Every movement needed to put me in the perfect position to collect as many chakra orbs as possible, and even allow Gaara to collect a few as well. If he had run out, he wouldn't drop chakra orbs for me, and I'd run out too.
23:57- I walked right past Tenten because I discovered that you don't have to do 3 fights to get the secret ending. Thanks to Matsushiro for helping me discover that.
24:15- Kankuro gave me 13 points for beating him, which means I don't have to get the crystal from the YOLO box.
24:45- The movement path is different in the remake because I need to collect all of the red crystals, but not all of the blue crystals. I skipped the two slowest blue crystals.
24:55- I specifically landed on the railing leading to Shikamaru's special seat because it's approximately 10,000X swaggier than landing on the ramp. It's also faster, which is less important.
24:59- Landing on this railing is significantly harder than landing on the other one, but this one was done mainly for speed because I needed to get a very optimal jump to get enough distance to kick the white thingamabob on the roof of the other building without touching the ground and without getting money. It's also swaggier, which is less important.
27:47- Mashing X every other frame isn't actually the fastest way to do this minigame. If you do that, you will end up with 59 push-ups. When I did the original TAS, I was too lazy to figure out the optimal way to do push-ups, so I decided to express my love for swag in a different way instead. In this remake, I manually tested every possible way you could press the button on every possible frame, and I found the highest number of push-ups the game will let you do: 63.
28:00- In the original TAS, I hadn't yet realised that the posing minigame could be faster or slower depending on RNG. The TAS still coincidentally got decent RNG anyway, but this TAS made it much better by manipulating it.
