NDFT #16: Medical Miracles, An irreparable split in Naturopathy with Dr. Christie Fleetwood, ND, RPh
A wonderful lively and fun discussion with Dr. Fleetwood, ND, regarding how she has seen continued and real naturopathic medicine miracles working with the principles of nature cure. And much more.
During this discussion you’ll learn:
• 3:00 What naturopathic medicine has to offer (especially in unlicensed states)
o The number one cause of death in North America is most likely iatrogenesis,
which means caused by pharmaceutical drugs.
o Licensing naturopathic medicine on a state level comes with shackles. Bills
change the educational process, so the schools have to teach according to the
standards that the bills set, rather than the traditional standards of naturopathic
medicine.
o Dr. Fleetwood does not manage chronic disease, she reverses chronic disease.
o Pharmaceutical drugs are the newest form of medicine, only 100 years old, so
how did that become mainstream?
• 16:28 Big Pharma, censorship, and control
o The standards of care are written for medical doctors, not naturopathic doctors.
o Dr. Fleetwood no longer teaches at the schools because the state administration
wants her to teach drug management rather than drug deprescription. The
schools are most likely receiving funding from Big Pharma.
• 23:00 Problems with the naturopathic schools
o Current teachers are inexperienced, thus often doubt the power of naturopathic
medicine.
o Until the profession decides who they are, then the mission statement can be
misinterpreted and teaching in schools is inconsistently aligned with naturopathic
philosophy.
o The wisdom of nature says live and let live. Western medicine says that the
doctor is in control, and in return they regard those who relinquish control in the
wrong.
• 35:11 The solution as a split in the profession
o Integrative medicine requires separate entities, not sublimation of NDs to MDs.
o The hardest part will be deciding who takes which nomenclatures: ND, NMD.
o Some longtime practicing NDs think we need to sue all the schools and the
AANMC for not providing a naturopathic education. We need a different
accrediting body.
o Chronic diseases kill 70% of people, yet our education is focused on acute
diseases.
o There are brilliant people within our profession who are happy and willing to
teach! Share the best teachers for each topic in schools and have the schools
share the cost.
• 1:06:00 Dr. Fleetwood’s favorite tools
o “When you’re working with really sick people, then you need to pick out the big
guns. Real food, clean water, rest, movement...these are the big guns.” Alan
Goldhamer
o Rather than needing prescriptive rights for the sake of deprescribing, Dr.
Fleetwood suggests telling the patient what to say to their prescribing physician.
And the patient feels empowered!
