Today is the 10th day of the Nithyanandeshwara Paramashiva Brahmotsavam. The final grand celebration of this Brahmotsavam is Maha Deepam. This ritual is the celebration of the ultimate experience of oneness with Paramashiva. The lamps that were set out in the morning Bharani Deepam festival, will now be merged with the Maha Deepam that is Paramashiva in the form of the Jyoti, the cosmic effulgence manifesting in the form of a large lamp.
Simultaneously upon the hill of Arunachala, a large lamp is lit and maintained for 11 days after the Karthigai Deepam Festival.
The significance of the Karthigai Deepam Festival is that the universal Paramashiva manifests the whole cosmos in the morning. In the evening He manifests and shines as the Tejolinga as the large lamps, the Maha Deepam is lit on the Arunachala Hill, into whom the whole cosmos will unite into oneness. This festival is a celebration of Paramashiva creating the cosmos from Himself through the Bharani Deepam, and finally, the ultimate oneness with Paramashiva that He showers upon the whole cosmos.
When the Maha Deepam is lit is at this very moment when Paramashiva gave enlightenment to Paramashivashakti and accepted her as his very other half, and graces in the cosmos as Ardhanareeshwara. As a being that is half masculine and half feminine, showing the ultimate truth that we are all not bound by any gender identity, we are all truly beyond gender identity, we are in truth with Paramashiva who is transcendental gender, Ardhanareeshwara.
Ardhanareeshwara graces and dances in ecstatic bliss when the Maha Deepam of Paramashiva is lit. Seeing these events when the whole cosmos is celebrating Paramashiva, can raise all of us to the same space of Oneness with Paramashiva.
