On Friday, North Korea announced that it had successfully test-fired a new intercontinental ballistic missile utilizing solid propellants.

If confirmed, this development could provide the country with a more difficult-to-detect weapon capable of targeting the continental United States, the Associated Press reported.

The announcement from North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency came after neighboring countries detected the launch from an area near Pyongyang.
