otis redding - stand by me (digitally extracted stereo) - remix
Edit for headphones, August 2022. I remixed this digitally extracted stereo song from "STEREO in" https://youtu.be/LFYjf0dbr7U for, in my opinion, it needed some 'attention'.
"Stand By Me" - originally performed by Ben E. King in 1961 - is not mentioned in Otis Redding's discography in Wikipedia, so I think it was never released as a single. It is - mono - on the 1964 album "Pain In My Heart" and - also mono - on the 2020 remastered vinyl release of the album "The Best Of Otis Redding".
The royalties of Ben E. King's release of "Stand By Me" were estimated to have topped $22.8 million, making it the sixth highest-earning song as of its era, he received 50% of the royalties.
"Stand By Me" was inspired by "Stand by Me Father", a 1959 spiritual written by Sam Cooke and James W. Alexander called, performed by "The Soul Stirrers" with lead-singer Johnny Taylor.
The song uses a version of the common chord progression now called "the 50s progression", which has been called the "'Stand by Me' changes" after the song. For example, in C major: C–Am–F–G. As the name implies, it was common in the 1950s and early 1960s and is particularly associated with doo-wop.
STAND BY ME (Otis Redding version)
(Ben E. King/Jerry Leiber/Mike Stoller)
(sometimes Leiber and Stoller together used the pseudonym Elmo Glick)
when the night has come
and the land is dark
and the moon is the only
only light we see
no I won't be afraid
no no no no no no
I won't be afraid
just as long just as long
just as long as you stand by me
now darling darling
whenever I'm in trouble
darling won't you stand
I need just a little helping hand
right now now
and darling darling
won't you stand by me
if the sky we look upon now now
should tumble and fall
all of the mountains may crumble
may crumble to the sea
I won't cry I won't cry
no no no no no I won't shed no tears
just as long just as long
just as long as you stand by me
now darling darling
I said I need somebody right now
I need just a little helping hand next
need someone to come pick me up
and let stand by me
come on come on now baby, yeah
'nd a my my my my baby woow wow
come on come on and stand 'n stand by me
and darling darling stand by me
