What an amazing and blessed thing. Jesus heals a man and frees him from demonic oppression! The Pharisees responded by calling Jesus a servant of Satan. Jesus' forceful response serves to instruct us about the sin against the Holy Spirit. This is powerful stuff!
• Matthew is writing to a Jewish audience. He always shows how Jesus is fulfilling the Prophecies of the Old Testament.
• Jesus Is not a respecter of persons. It does not matter who you are. He loves you the same.
• There is no "fluff and filler" in the Bible.
• Jesus was always showing compassion for others.
• Jesus healed and freed those from oppression that NO ONE else could help.
• What Jesus did for this demon oppressed man blew the people away.
• Jesus showed himself to be the Son of David. The people loved it. The Pharisees went ballistic.
• IF Jesus was the Son of David, what space did that leave for the Pharisees? That is why they went over the top in their response.
• The MESSIAH Came and they accused him of being SATAN!
• He knew their thoughts. It must have driven them nuts.
• Jesus' response to their accusation was not an answer but rather, a refutation. He blew them out of the water.
• Jesus' argument advanced from the worldly to the spiritual.
• There were exorcists in that day. They worked for the Pharisees.
• IF Jesus could cast out demons THEN he was the Son of God, the Son of David, and THEN they had to answer to him. That applied to that day and, the Last Day.
• You are either with Jesus or, you are not. There is no in-between. You either love him or hate him.
• It makes NO SENSE to hate the God who loves you. Still, that is what unbelief does.
• Unbelief does not make any sense. Do not try to figure it out.
• Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is rejecting the active working and urging of the Holy Spirit on your heart.
• Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is repeatedly hardening your heart against the Spirit. Like Pharaoh, it quickly gets to the point of no return.
• The God-Man, Jesus Christ was there preaching and proclaiming the message of Salvation. How powerfully do you think the Holy Spirit was working on his hearers? THAT is what the Pharisees were resisting and blaspheming against.
• Any time you harden your heart, you are flirting with disaster.
