According to tradition, God judges all creatures during the 10 Days of Awe between the feast of Trumpets (or 'Rosh Hashanah' which is the civic new year but the Levitical real new year fo Passover in the spring) and Yom Kippur, deciding whether they will live or die in the coming year.
