In this video, i talk about the primary source texts for old-school ceremonial magick with a focus on historical documents for the various practices, such as spirit evocation and the construction of talismans. One of the foundational texts of classical ceremonial magick is the Greek Magical Papyri or PGM. This is a collection of magic spells dating from around the 2nd century BCE until the 5th century CE. Another of the most important texts of the last 2,000 years is the Picatrix, which outlines the basics of electional astrology for the purpose of crafting astrological talismans. This is also a text that can be used for the timing of magick rituals of other kinds, such as spirit evocation, at the most auspicious time. Of course, Henry Cornelius Agrippa's "Three Books of Occult Philosophy" was vitally important, and was probably the most influential book of Renaissance magic. [Pseudo] Agrippa's "Fourth Book" is very important as well, as it includes several key texts that have made a big impact in the history of western occultism, such as the Heptameron, the Arbatel of Magic, and various works on Geomancy. These latter texts also serve as good examples of Renaissance magic, and serve as an example of various ceremonial magic practices during the Renaissance.
