"Thomas Paine was a scandalous little monkey of a man, but he sure knew how to write a book." - Mr. Atwater

True Story:
After publishing "Common Sense" and helping the Revolutionary cause in the Colonies, Paine moved to England. There he invented and built the first steel construction bridge span ever. He built it as a demonstration to prove the viability of the idea. Curiously, he built the bridge in the middle of a farm field and it went from nowhere to nowhere.
After this, he traveled to France to aid the Democratic Revolution. He fell a foul of the Movement and was sentenced to death. At the last moment his life was spared through diplomatic intervention of the new United States of America. While in prison in France, he finished writing "The Age of Reason."
He returned to the United States where his publication was met with outrage. He died penniless and friendless with only six people attending his funeral.
Even today, it is very difficult to find a published copy of "The Age of Reason" in print. We are lucky to have this audio version by Joe D made available from librivox.org
