Madonna - Holiday
This week officially marks 40 years of Madonna and ‘Everybody’ is celebrating. And honestly, if we took a holiday, took some time to celebrate just one day out of life, it would be so nice.
If we're talking specifically about the first album, that would be pre-“Madonna" and post-“Madonna." Her self-titled debut was released 40 years ago today — July 27, 1983. It introduced to the masses a woman who would become the biggest pop star in the world, whose career has weathered constant change and nonstop criticism.
Her first single was ‘Everybody’ that came out on October 6, 1982. ‘Holiday’ was her first single that hit the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Madonna found out that a song she had recorded called “Ain’t No Big Deal” had already gone to disco act Barracuda, so the track was no longer an option. The Holiday was picked from scrap became the replacement.
Critics reacted positively towards the track, deeming it infectious and a highlight from the album; in retrospective reviews, it is now considered to be among Madonna's best singles. "Holiday" performed well commercially: in the United States, it was considered Madonna's breakthrough, peaking at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100, and reaching number one on the Dance Club Songs chart. It found success outside North America as well, reaching the top-ten in Australia, Belgium, Germany and Ireland, among others. In the United Kingdom it was released three times: first in 1984, then one year later, and finally in 1991; the last two times, it reached the chart's top five.
Lyrics:
Holiday
Celebrate
Holiday
Celebrate
If we took a holiday
Took some time to celebrate
Just one day out of life
It would be
It would be so nice
Everybody spread the word
We're gonna have a celebration
All across the world
In every nation
It's time for the good times
Forget about the bad times, oh yeah
One day to come together to release the pressure
We need a holiday
If we took a holiday
Took some time to celebrate (come on let's celebrate)
Just one day out of life (holiday)
It would be
It would be so nice
You can turn this world around
And bring back all of those happy days
Put your troubles down
It's time to celebrate
Let love shine
And we will find
A way to come together
Can make things better
We need a holiday
If we took a holiday (holiday)
Took some time to celebrate (celebrate)
Just one day out of life (just one day)
It would be
It would be so nice
Holiday
Celebrate
Holiday
Celebrate
If we took a holiday (oh yeah, oh yeah)
Took some time to celebrate (come on let's celebrate)
Just one day out of life (holiday)
It would be
It would be so nice
Holiday (ooh yeah, ooh yeah)
Celebrate (c'mon, let's celebrate)
Holiday
Just one day out of life
Celebrate
It would be so nice
Holiday (holiday)
Celebration
Holiday
Come together
In every nation
Holiday (holiday)
Celebration (holiday)
Come together
In every nation
Holiday
Celebrate
Holiday
Celebrate
Holiday
We've got to get together
Celebrate
Take some time to celebrate (holiday)
Just one day out of life (celebrate)
It would be so nice
Holiday (holiday)
Celebration
Celebrate
Come together
In every nation
Holiday (holiday)
Celebration
