destructive device limit update 50 caliber = 37 gauge = 12.7 mm & depends on "standards" & tradition
as
Caliber can refer to bore measurement between the lands or between the grooves of the rifling BUT more often refer the diameter of the projectile SEO if a typical 12 gauge "can" fire a 80.9-79.7 caliber taper shell, into a 81.1-79.8 caliber taper chamber through a forceing cone into a 72.5 calibre smoothbore so it can clear a muzzel with a maximum 70 calibre choke all to to fire pellets or a 69 calibre solid slug & the legal definition it is designed as a 2 hand shoulder-fired weapon with a stock
cutting down a shotgun makes its projectile grouping scatter closer to the gun than would be usefull for most game hunting & if its stock is also cut, its more concealable & maneuverable
& without a choke or friction from the long barrel to slow its down ammo it "may" go faster &
its purpose would then seem be to just kill people , butt what if we only chop a stock!
IF you made a "firearm" , 26 inches or more in overall length & to never have a stock & with a barrel that isn't rifled because its OVERTLY DESINGED for shotgun shells that are "generally recognized as particularly suitable for sporting purposes" , then THIS technically it is a 26 inch long firearm with a 14 inch barrel length & a 73 calibre bore thats fired "like" a pistole/handgun that can never have a stock added
the prohibition of ammunition larger in diameter than .50 caliber excludes any "shotgun ammo" & AOW definitions exclude weapons with overall length more than 26 inches
all of this falls outside of the normal classifications & avoids falling into any law defined firearm & cannot be judged as a sawed off , short barreled or normal sised rifle , shotgun, handgun , concealable weapon , smooth bore pistol , “any other weapon” or a “destructive device”
if a weapon has a 14 inch barrel & a stock it becomes an unregistered ShotrBarreledShotgun if its bar..
