The Pitfall of Private Judgment

Why did the Goodman in the Gospel today not allow his servants to pull up the cockle? There are many reasons, but here is one of them. In general, man is not a good judge; and so, even these good willed men might easily end up pulling up the wrong ones… destroyingthe good along with the bad. It seems clear to me that we are at the end of a mighty revolution that has plagued the world for some centuries now. The end of such disorder is usually the most difficult part to pass through…as it rears up its head in its lastefforts to keep alive! I think many feel this and are at least secretly wondering if we will survive its undoing. Few seem to have the strength required to be valiant counter revolutionaries needed at times like these. Because of this faint heartedness, sadto say this revolution, which really blossomed under the Protestant defection from the Faith and later spread world wide after the French Revolution, is all around us and even inside of us. Today it is fitting to address one of this revolution’s hallmark errorsor pitfalls: private judgment, that is judging things that are not ours judge.
