What if we are no longer allowed to decide about our own health? The EU is working on legislation to limit vitamin doses. "Serious problems can then occur," says health scientist Robert Verkerk, who fights for the right to decide for yourself how you care for your body.
Verkerk is a Brit with Dutch roots and founder of Alliance for Natural Health (ANH) International. This is a non-profit organization that advocates a sustainable and natural approach to health. ANH is opposed to far-reaching EU regulations that limit the use of vitamins. “We are not saying that there should be no regulation, but we want proportionate regulation.”
There are many misunderstandings about nutritional supplements. In his evening program, presenter Arjen Lubach recently opened the attack on these substances. For example, it would be dangerous to take extremely high doses. At the table with program maker Flavio Pasquino, Verkerk explains why he looks at this differently. He also explains the dubious role of big pharma, which has a financial interest in restricting people's freedom of choice.
According to Verkerk, we as individuals and as a society should deal with health differently. “It's as if we decided not to do annual maintenance,” he compares the body to a car. “We wait until something breaks and then we try to fix it. But that's not a good way to take care of your car.”
