Two Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) soldiers were shot and injured in an operation in St James, where a state of emergency is in place, on Thursday.
The operation was to apprehend criminals, including one of the country’s most wanted figure.
Reports are that at about 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, a joint police/military team went to the Richmond Hill section of the parish in search of wanted men, including Delano Wilmott, otherwise called ‘Prekeh’, and his cronies.
The police said the team of law enforcers was greeted by men armed with guns.
“The team attempted to arrest the wanted men, but was greeted with heavy gunfire from a variety of high-powered weapons. Two members of the JDF patrol team were hit, but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening,” an officer from the JDF told Loop News.
The police said ‘Prekeh’ is wanted in connection with numerous shootings and murders, and has been on the run for some time now since fleeing Montego Bay in the wake of the enhanced security measures there.
