It has always been something of a mystery to me, how much it ultimately mattered that Britain opted to fight on rather than come to a negotiated peace. Turns out it mattered a lot and probably cost Germany the war. You see Nazi Germany had a critical shortage of oil and with the blockade in place, it made conducting the war to any real extent virtually impossible and it is quite likely the German's would have won had the UK bowed out.
