Over It . Waata Keating speaks after Christchurch Police Station protest October 15 2022
TRANSCRIPT START 0:26
"This is about the bulls*** I keep seeing on a little discussion that's going on on one of my posts. Now to clear up why I'm so anti-'Freedom-and-Rights-Coalition' and why I say they're controlled freedom.
For 18 months we were protesting, we'd go down to Wellington, the challenge at Wellington wasn't just a protest, it was about taking and maintaining the stairs, the public space that led up to the doors (of Parliament).
We've always fought for that in protests, we've always gone for it. For 18 months we challenged and we won it solidly, we took the steps. We held the steps.
Security couldn't get us down.
Police couldn't get us down.
Then comes the first Freedom and Rights Coalition protest and in all my time protesting at Parliament, it was the only time the protestors stopped you from going up the steps; the security for the FARC.
Those are Peoples steps, they're public space. We have a right to go up there. We have a right to stand on top of them to send our message, but no, what happened that time was we ran into the sec for FARC, no one was allowed up there, that's control. That stops what we've done for years.
2:31 That gave the message by them saying we can't go up the stairs they gave Parliament security, the police (and) Parliament itself the impression we ceded those stairs that day.
The same day they told us all to go home, to leave.
Never in my protesting time have I been told "time to leave".
Why? 'cause we like talking, we like interacting, we might not have finished talking and sending our message,
and then to rub insult to injury, it was: "There's a hangi (earth oven feast) down Aotea Centre, that'll get you Mauris moving" that's just damn right insulting, you might think it's funny but to me it's not
Why? because we were there to send a message.
3:44 The message that the Parliament got was that we were a pack of bitches.
Why? cos we don't go for what we've always done. and it was the security of the FARC that fought the people.
At Parliament on the same thing, the first day we were attacked, the Thursday (10th February 2022) they took off, and then it was one of their guys when I was trying to put a line in so the People getting hurt by the Police, and it was the security of the FARC that tried throwing me off the steps
4:36 When you want to talk about Freedom
People have a right to be free, yes.
People have the right to protest freely, without controls.
If people want to talk, it's not up to anyone to decide whether or not they can't talk, can talk.
It's just be respectful. We need a little bit of time because there are a lot of people to talk.
You don't limit who speaks, that's control.
You don't say this person can and this person can't. That's Control, and that's what we've seen....
5:20 ..so when I say FARC are about controlled freedom, I stand by my words cause that's what I've seen. That's what we saw in Wellington at their first protest: "Everyone can go home"? Piss off. Who the hell do you think you are, when we travelled up from the South, people travelled up from the South Island for 2 hours? Piss off.
When it came to making the Occupation of Parliament, or creating a living space there, you tell us to go home
Some people travelled from Invercargill, some travelled from all the way up Kaitaia. Who the hell are you to tell us to go home? That's control!
All through the time at freedom village, we watched FARC control the microphone as to who could and couldn't speak.
6:33 You want to call yourselves Freedom Rights Coalition? you should call yourself Control Freak Coalition, cause that's all you're about.
You've got an agenda, you're trying to push it, you ain't for the People, if you were you wouldn't have told them to go home, you wouldn't have told them this is what we're doing and that's that.
You'd have a discussion with the people, not run it through ego.
Far out.
If you wanna fight for the People, then do it for the People.
we're taking the Red Zone, it's not for us, we've already got our whenua (land) secured.
It's for the People
What's the idea of it? so we can bring the People together, so we can fight together without all this control bulls***.
Wake up and look at their actions, then you'll see if they're for the People.
Arohanui people. It's a day of ah "I'm f***in' over it. "
