*Note: An individual can be extremely wise in certain areas but also tremendously myopic in others.

•There is a high tendency for groups of human beings to adopt collectivist hive-mentalities. This is primarily because true freedom and independence requires high amounts of personal responsibility and risk taking, things which most human beings have always tended to be averse to.

•There are fountains of wisdom and knowledge in many ancient philosophies and texts (if the Truth that underlies them is discerned correctly, and not confused with the outward symbolism); but there are also many abhorrent examples of despotism which form parts of many such ancient philosophies, traditions and texts.
••An example of such a work would be the 'Arthashastra' written by Kautilya, an ancient Indian philosopher, around 300 BC. It is a treatise on totalitarian control by the state over every aspect of human life (from price controls, extreme bureaucracy, licensing regulations, to welfare programs and the division of labor via a formalized and concrete class/caste system).

•Everything that is ancient is not necessarily archaic and incorrect; or for that matter, wise.
Everything that is modern is not necessarily new and correct; or for that matter, fatuous.
