Portland Trail Blazers center Jusuf Nurkic was stretchered off the court midway through the second overtime of Monday's game against the Brooklyn Nets with a gruesome leg injury.
The 7-foot Bosnian collapsed to the hardwood coming down from a putback attempt after appearing to land on Jared Dudley's foot with 2:22 remaining in the period. He suffered a compound fracture of his tibia and fibula and will miss the remainder of the season, according to the Blazers.
Fans at Moda Center chanted Nurkic's name as trainers tended to him under the basket, covering his injured leg with a towel. He was eventually loaded onto a stretcher with the assistance of several of his teammates.
Nurkic had a double-double of 32 points and 16 rebounds on 13-of-24 shooting in 34 minutes of action prior to exiting. He also had five assists, two steals, and four rejections.
Following Portland's narrow 148-144 victory, head coach Terry Stotts informed reporters that Nurkic had been transported to a local hospital and described the injury as "devastating," according to NBA.com's Casey Holdahl.
"It made me sick to my stomach," said Damian Lillard of the injury, according to the Oregonian's Joe Freeman. "I was playing at the game in Vegas when a similar thing happened to Paul George. That's exactly what it looked like to me when I saw it. You never want to see that happen to anybody, let alone your friend and teammate."
