Piano Sonata in G major, Op. 37 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

Tchaikovsky completed this sonata in 1878, with the premiere performance being given the same year at the Russian Musical society, with Nikolai Rubenstein on the piano. Tchaikovsky wrote to his brother Anatolii of the difficulty he faced composing this sonata, with the composition at one point being dropped so Tchaikovsky could focus on his violin concerto. The work was dedicated to the German pianist and composer Karl Klindworth.

This sonata is comprised of four movements:
I. Moderato e risoluto
II. Andante non troppo quasi Moderato
III. Scherzo: Allegro giocoso
IV. Finale: Allegro vivace
