Usually, I carry my camera gear in a Billingham shoulder bag. As a press photographer, I need to have instant access to my gear so I can swap lenses and cameras as required. However, I like to take a decent range of cameras kit with me when I go hiking and a shoulder bag is not suitable as it gets in the way and often I need both hands free to get over styles or scale steep and rocky slopes. For this, a backpack is really what is needed. A normal rucksack will not do as it does not offer sufficient protection to my gear and finding particular items quickly can be difficult.
This new camera rucksack from K&F Concept goes a long way to answering my needs. It is strong and rugged enough to offer decent protection with adjustable interior padding to custom fit to any piece of equipment and with the back unzipped all the items within are immediately visible and accessible.
The rucksack arrived in a just a plastic bag with no product box although it did have K&F Concept tags in place. No instructions or paperwork was included and none needed.
The rucksack is 17.3 x 6.3 x 11.4 inches and is made from water resistant (whatever that means) rip proof 840D nylon material. It features numerous inside and outside pockets and pouches including one in the top padded flap that can accommodate a 13.3" laptop. It also has a small external zipper pocket on a folding flap that can be used for a credit card or small instant access items. It is designed for weighty loads and has well padded should straps as well as a retaining chest strap. On the sides are external straps to allow a tripod of up to 50 cm to be secured.
The heart of the bag is the large padded area where the camera gear is stored. This is protected by a padded external flap which opens up fully to reveal space sufficient for a couple of DSLR camera bodies, flash and several lenses. However, do not expect to get anything larger than a 70..
