manassas - Jesus gave love away for free - stereo remix
Edit for headphones. Some distortion every now and then, for I sooo love this song's bass... I just had to over do it, bass was stronger than me... Source file of the edit is on the April 12, 1972 double album "Manassas" (1992 remaster - Atlantic 82808-2). Studio recording engineers were Ron and Howard Albert. The album was a top ten seller in June 1972, together with "Graham Nash David Crosby", the first album by David Crosby and Graham Nash and "Harvest" by Neil Young (his fourth studio album). Now that was an interesting month...
This double album is divided into four parts:
side one: The Raven, side two: The Wilderness (where this song is on), side three: Consider, side four: Rock & Roll Is Here to Stay.
Members:
Stephen Stills: vocals, guitar, bottleneck guitar, piano, organ, electric piano, clavinet, Moog synthesizer
Chris Hillman: vocals, guitar, mandolin
Al Perkins: pedal steel guitar, guitar, vocals
Paul Harris: organ, tack piano, piano, electric piano, clavinet
Dallas Taylor: drums
Calvin "Fuzzy" Samuels: bass
Joe Lala: congas, timbales/percussion, vocals
Additional members:
Sydney George (on The Raven and The Wilderness): harmonica
Jerry Aiello (on The Raven and The Wilderness): piano, organ, electric piano, clavinet
Bill Wyman (on The Raven and The Wilderness): bass
Roger Bush (on The Raven and The Wilderness): acoustic bass
Byron Berline: fiddle
Jerry Garcia: pedal steel guitar [Rumored to have played on "Jesus Gave Love Away For Free" (along with Al Perkins) and "So Begins The Task". Various interviews have Garcia talking about playing uncredited on the first Manassas album.]
Malcolm Cecil: Expanded Series III Moog Synthesizer programming
JESUS GAVE LOVE AWAY FOR FREE
(Stephen Stills)
if you're travelling out west and you see a dark-haired girl
tell it her love is waiting in the rockies so near
and the mountains is high as his love it is strong
it's a fine place to be by his side she belongs
and they both travelled far and they both travelled wide
but they travelled alone with no one to confide
their love can't grow stronger, though now it is deep
they must trust in each other their soul for to keep
and we all know that people ain't made to live lonely
they need to be trusted and loved by one only
that one, special one who can just let it be
and remember that Jesus gave love away for free
